How I Overcame My Fears to Follow My True North

In partnership with Crushing the Myth, I created a video where I share my story of how I overcame my fears to follow my True North. The video can be accessed here. More specifically, I talk about how I overcame my fears of quitting my full-time job (e.g.: giving up a steady paycheck, not having a job title/an answer to the question of “So, what do you do?”) in order to give myself the time and space to figure out next steps in my life.

It was in quitting my job with nothing lined up that I was able to open the doors to a life that I would’ve never imagined. After I left my job, I spent a year doing all the things that I’ve always wanted to, but never had the chance to do because I had a full-time job, some of which included:

  • working as an agribusiness consultant in Zimbabwe

  • serving as a writer and photographer on a cruise ship that sailed around Southeast Asia + Oceania

  • taking my grandmother on a 3-week vacation across China, Hong Kong and Taiwan

Mark Twain once said, “Courage is not the lack of fear. It is acting in spite of it.”

May you have the courage to live an authentic life. May you have the courage to live out your wildest dreams.
